To put this in perspective for non U.K. types :

the all time temperature record for Nottingham is 34.6C ( set 1947 ) but it is predicted to be 37C on Monday, maybe more on Tuesday.

It really is quite exceptional, and everything from the mix of tarmac on the roads, to the tension on the rail lines, to the cooling on electric grid is designed for much cooler temperatures.
